Celebrating Mission and Commitment

Perpetual Profession of Sister Béatrice Senebou Coly and the 75th Jubilee of the Marist Sisters in Senegal

With great thanksgiving and deep joy, the Marist Sisters in Senegal celebrated a double event of great importance: the perpetual profession of Sister Béatrice Senebou Coly and the 75th anniversary of the Marist Sisters’ presence in the country.

The celebrations began on Thursday, February 12, with a prayer vigil in the parish. This meaningful time of recollection brought together sisters, families, friends, and many faithful who came to support Sister Béatrice and give thanks for 75 years of Marist mission in Senegal. In an atmosphere of silence, song, and meditation, everyone entrusted to the Lord the journey of the congregation as well as the definitive commitment Sister Béatrice was preparing to pronounce. It was an intense moment of fraternal communion and hope.

On Saturday, February 14, the Eucharistic celebration of thanksgiving marked the high point of the festivities. During this solemn Mass, Sister Béatrice Senebou Coly pronounced her perpetual vows, committing herself definitively to follow Christ in religious life according to the Marist charism.

The celebration of the 75th jubilee was also an opportunity to give thanks for the work accomplished since the arrival of the first sisters in Senegal, highlighting their faithful commitment in the service of the Church and the people through education, healthcare, and pastoral accompaniment.

This double event will remain engraved in memory as a sign of fidelity, perseverance, and hope for the future of the Marist mission. The joy of the celebration was even greater thanks to the presence of leaders who had come especially for the occasion. The community had the honor of welcoming the Superior General, Sister Sylvette, accompanied by Mari Aranda, General Councillor, as well as Sister Marie-Thérèse Terra and Sister Innocence from the France Unit. Their fraternal presence manifested the communion that unites the entire congregation beyond borders, in the same spirit of faith, service, and mission.
