Mission Continues Anew

75 Years of Marist Presence in Africa

As we look back with gratitude and look forward in hope, the story of Marist mission continues to unfold across countries.

At the request of the Marist Fathers, two Marist Sisters, Srs Marie Françoise and St Philippe, arrived in Senegal from France on 16th October 1950 to begin the first Marist Sisters community in West Africa.

Seventy-five years later, we give thanks for their courage and faith, which marked the beginning of the Marist Sisters’ presence on African soil.

The day after the Church celebrated Mission Sunday, Sister Innocence (West Africa) was missioned to the Unit of France for an initial period of two years.

Our prayers accompany Sr Innocence as she steps forward in faith. May her presence bring new life and vitality to our Marist heritage and to the Marist community in France.

May the seeds of vocation sown in African soil continue to bear fruit and renew the Marist spirit wherever they are planted.
