Walking with Mary into our Vocation Year

A renewed “Yes, Lord!” in Australia

On 12 September, the Australian Marist Sisters gathered at Hunters Hill to celebrate the Feast of the Holy Name of Mary and joyfully launch the Congregation’s Vocation Year in Australia.

The year is especially significant as the Marist Sisters celebrate 200 years since the first profession of the Sisters in Belley, France, on 6 September 1826. It is a time to remember the courageous “Yes” of Jeanne-Marie Chavoin and the first Sisters, and the many generations of women who have continued to respond to God’s call.

Using the prayer prepared for the occasion, the Sisters reflected on their own vocation and renewed their desire to live the Gospel in the way of Mary – with humility, simplicity, service and love. The lighting of the Vocation Year candle was a particularly meaningful moment, symbolising the light of Christ and the invitation to continue saying, “Yes, Lord!”

The Jubilee candle from the previous year was given new life for the occasion, with the Vocation Year logo added. The gathering also provided a joyful opportunity for the Sisters to share, celebrate and enjoy one another’s company.

As they begin this special year, the Australian Marist Sisters pray that Mary, Woman of the “Yes”, will accompany them and inspire many young people to listen to God’s invitation and respond with generous and joyful hearts.

Yes Lord!
