Light of Consecrated Life
Mass for Consecrated Life – Parramatta Diocese

On Sunday, 2 February, Sisters Judith and Beverley from the Merrylands Community attended the Mass for Consecrated Life at St Patrick’s Cathedral, Parramatta. The celebration began in the Cathedral courtyard with the blessing of candles. Each of the 43 religious congregations present in the diocese received a candle, which was then carried into the Cathedral in procession. Sr Judith carried the Marist Sisters’ candle.

The liturgical celebration was magnificent. Bishop Vincent Long’s homily offered a heartfelt acknowledgement of Religious Life. In conclusion, he said:
“The image of Simeon and Anna holding the child is a fitting metaphor for Religious today. If, like them, you are faced with decline and death, you should not fear as long as you pass on to others the hope and light you have seen.”
After Mass, all gathered in the hall for refreshments and joyful conversation.
