La Fête de Lumière (The Festival of Light)
Every year in the diocese of Lyon, numerous initiatives are taken to celebrate the feast of the Immaculate Conception on 8 December.
Fourvière, so dear to the Marists, is illuminated with the inscription MERCI MARIE, visible from afar, in memory of the protection the people of Lyon gave her during an epidemic.
Over the years, this feast of Mary has become the FETE DES LUMIERES.
This festival is also a time for mission, meeting, fraternity and sharing. The doors of the churches remain open and the “missionaries of the 8th” welcome the many visitors passing through. This year there are two million of them!
