Brother Giuseppe D'Orazio OMI  1920-2017

On 17th May a much-loved OMI  Brother left the General House at Via Aurelia, 290, for his heavenly home.

D'Orazio, as he was commonly (and fondly) known, was 97 years old, had lived most of his life in the General House and  only last June celebrated  his 75th Anniversary of Religious Profession (see photo below).

He had a warm fraternal bond with the current Superior General, Fr Louis Lougen, who celebrated  evening Mass in the Chapel with D'Orazio, at the latter's request, less than 12 hours before his death. D'Orazio then joined the community for the evening meal despite having been quite ill for some days - no one, except himself perhaps realised how close death was. It came peacefully in the wee small hours...

Marist Sisters who have lived in Rome will remember him for his joyful, warm greeting when we attended Sunday Mass, or met him in the street. Alleluia, il nostro carissimo fratello!
