A House of Refuge for abused women and their children

A work strongly supported by our Sisters in Canada is L'Escale MadaVic Inc. This is the Edmundston branch of a wider organistaion which provides protection and rehabilitation for victims of domestice violence. When our sisters were no longer able to run the Mont-Ste-Marie Orphanage they looked for ways to support other similar organisations. They have a close relationship with the staff of L'Escale and make a substantial financial contribution.

The photo below shows the only male worker in the whole L'Escale organisation. Michel was brought up by the Marist Sisters in their orphanage. Having raised his own family he is now retired and gives voluntary service through his many skills - carpentry, plumbing and electrical expertise. The beautifully crafted wooden symbol is the work of Michel and is admired here by Sr Simonne and the director of L'Escale MadaVic.
