Celebrations in Lami

The bi-centenary celebration at Lami was a great and memorable occasion. All the Sisters of the Fiji unit were present except for Sisters Loyola and Mary Chris but they were certainly with us in spirit.

As we gathered together on Friday evening, the spirit of joy and excitement was tangible.

Saturday 28th October, saw all the sisters waiting eagerly to process in with the 18 priests who were concelebrating with Fr John Crispin sm. It was touching to see Sister Teresa Naidu carrying the image of Jeanne Marie and placing her on Mary’s altar. Father Crispin in his homily thanked the Sisters for their vital role in the Church of Fiji. He emphasized the importance of the presence of the Marist Sisters who came as missionaries and how they would be proud to see the local Sisters continuing the work of Mary now and in the future. He also spoke about vocations and the need for the sisters to be proactive but not worried.

Many of the priests, sisters of other congregations, friends and benefactors later joined theSisters for the delicious meal provided by the Catholic Women’s League. The women of CWL also decorated the hall with marist colors of blue and white. We also had a live band which provided us with music that was not only entertaining but moved people to dance and enjoy the day thoroughly.

We thank the leadership team (Nia, Sia and Salome) for all the hard work that went into organizing this very special day.
