Praying for a saint for New Zealand

Family Connections - Suzanne Aubert

We Marists have strong and warm connections to Suzanne Aubert, who was the foundress of the Sisters of Compassion in New Zealand. As a former member of the Third Order of Mary Suzanne had imbibed Marist spirituality and later became known as Sr Mary Joseph – reminiscent of our foundress. The current congregational leader, Sr Margaret Anne Mills, recently stayed at our general house for a couple of weeks. Fr Maurice Carmody, nephew of our Sister Sabina, was in Rome also, meeting with various Vatican officials to promote the cause of Suzanne's canonisation. (A previous leader was Sr Philippine, sister of our Sr Xavier Dunne.)

So, let's pray with these members of our extended Marist Family - the Sisters of Compassion and their collaborators - that Suzanne Aubert very soon will become the first canonised saint for New Zealand!

Lord Jesus Christ, you taught us
that as often as we show compassion to the least of your brothers and sisters,
we show it to you.
Hear our prayers that Venerable Suzanne Aubert,
who loved the Maori people and devoted her life to the poor, the sick and the underprivileged,
and whom the Church has declared to be one of your true and humble followers,
may soon be recognised as a saint.
Amen
