Brunilde Alterio - Italy
10/04/1932 - 24/02/2019
Sr. Brunilde was born in Navelli, in the province of L'Aquila, on 10 April 1932. Her first name was Brunilde - she was the first child, followed by three brothers, born to Nicola Alterio and Maria Floccuzio.
She was very young when she went to France to begin her Marist training. Sr. Brunilde took the religious habit in Massabielle (France) on 29 September 1955 with the name of Sr. Cesarina, and subsequently made her religious profession on 3 October 1956.
She began her ministry in the S.Prix community from 1956 to 1957.
Then she returned to Italy in the community of Moncalieri (TO) at the service of the Marist Fathers as a cook at the school for young seminarians.
From 1958 to 1960 she served in Anzio as a cook and returned from 1964 to 1965 to then be sent to various Italian Communities.
During her Marist religious life Sr. Brunilde has served in numerous places, particularly working in kitchens, especially in communities and parish nursery schools, where everyone recognized her gift as a cook. If she discovered that a child preferred a particular type of dessert, she did not fail to let the family taste it.
Sr. Brunilde was a discreet and silent person who had the gift of meeting many people in need of someone to listen and with them she created beautiful friendships. Her presence was precious wherever she lived and the people she met in her ministry remember her with affection.
In the summer of 2018 she began to suffer various illnesses for which medical tests became necessary. Admission to the General Hospital of Treviso was advised, where she remained for 30 days.
On her return to the community of Treviso, the daily help of a nurse and that of the Sisters of the Community became indispensable. After this, she never recovered and became increasingly fragile every day.
Sr. Brunilde spent six months of illness in silence and serenity, always ready to surrender to the will of the Father.
She died on February 25th 2019 and the funeral ceremony was celebrated in the Parish of Santa Maria del Rovere in Treviso. The parish priest Don Adelino in his homily spoke of Sr. Brunilde as a discreet presence in the parish and a witness as a Marist religious.
We thank the Lord for the life journey we spent together.
Rest in peace.
