A Great Gathering hosted by our Irish Lay Marists
in An Grianan, Termonfeckin, Co Louth, Ireland
from July 29th to August 2nd 2019
It was truly an international event with 96 participants from 14 different countries: there were Europeans from Ireland, England, France, Germany, Holland, Italy, Norway and Spain as well as others from distant countries - Australia, Brazil, Mexico, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Philippines and USA.
The Marist Sisters and Fathers were well represented – mainly from Ireland with some visitors from other parts of Europe.
Four main topics were addressed by excellent presenters:
- Emerging Spirituality in the light of our Cosmic Story - Niamh Brennan
- Taking Mary out of Scripture into our world - Mary O’Connor & Ian Neylon
- How do we live out our call as lay Marists in today’s world - Maureen Meacher
- Discerning together paths for Marists to walk confidently into the future - Fr John Larsen SM (Superior General)
The venue, An Grianan, with its picturesque and peaceful surroundings together with the exceptionally good weather (Not typically Irish, we are told!) contributed greatly to the enjoyment of the event.
Relaxation was planned as an integral part of the experience. The group thoroughly enjoyed a trip to Faughart, birthplace of St Brigid, patroness of Ireland and another to Monasterboice famous for its ancient Celtic Cross. There was also the opportunity for a tour of Dublin, the capital city.
There was also an evening of traditional Irish entertainment with musicians and dancers from the local community. All the group participated enthusiastically even being encouraged to join in the Irish dancing, tutored by the dancers from ages 7 to 50.
Congratulations to all the organisers and heartfelt thanks to God!
With Mary, we sing: Magnificat!
