Walsingham events - one past and one preparing for the future
1. An email has been "doing the rounds" of Walsingham in search of a "good samaritan" - it read:
Recently we came to experience the Anglican Abbey and the Catholic Slipper Chapel. And the town. My husband was feeling a bit under the weather and we were very lucky to catch a ride to the Catholic site from the Abbey from an older white haired bundle of energy. She is a nun but I cannot recall her name. Everyone in town greeted her, and it may have been ‘Sister Catherine’, or not. Any idea of her name and how to contact her? She drives a stick shift and is funny and kind. Thank you for any help! We hope to visit your area again with people from our local churches here in Salem Oregon, USA.
The "bundle of energy" was none other than Sister Marina Brady!
2. A new icon
We are told that proudly displayed at the Catholic Slipper Chapel is an icon recently painted in honour of a special event to be held in Walsingham on 29 March. England is to be rededicated as Mary's Dowry! Cardinal Vincent Nichols wrote recently:
A few days ago, I was privileged to meet Pope Francis. At my request, he blessed a new icon dedicated to Our Lady of Walsingham. He did so because he knows that during this Lent, on 29th March, all are invited to make a personal Act of Dedication of our country to Our Blessed Lady. In doing so we repeat the Dedication made in 1381 by Richard II of England who promised this land and its people as the Dowry of Mary.
Thanks for the news, Sisters - we hold the Rededication Day in our prayer.
