Sister Mary Carmel Haran was born on Feast of our Lady of Lourdes 1917 in Cloonaugh, Curry County Sligo Ireland the youngest of a family of six, four girls and two boys. Tragedy struck when their beloved father, Thomas Haran died leaving their mother Mary to bring up this young family helped by the close bond of devoted sons and daughters and by her trust and confidence in God who never failed them. Sister Mary Carmel to whom her father was a faint memory was cherished by her family all through her life. Most of the family emigrated to New York where they made their homes.
