Honouring Marist Family
As the Marist Sisters were part of the teaching staff of Pompallier Catholic College between 1977-1989, Sisters Lorraine Campbell and Jane O’Carroll were invited by Hayden Kingdon, Principal, to Pompallier Catholic College, for the installation of “Our Lady of Grace” in the grounds near the chapel. (See the plaque at the foot of the statue below).
On behalf of the Marist Sisters, Lorraine “said a few words” and then presented a large plaque with photos of the 8 Sisters who lived and taught at Pompallier between 1977 to 1989. Margaret Cross was the last one to leave! Of the 8 Sisters, only Sr Genevieve Laxton has died.
A point of interest, this statue was carved by hand in China and shipped over. Mary’s korowai was woven for her.The We joined the staff and Students for their Patrons Day Mass – their patrons are Jean-Claude Colin, Jeanne-Marie Chavoin, Pā Henare Tate (a prominient Maori priest, educator and theologian) , and Suzanne Aubert. We also enjoyed stopping off to stay the night with John and Clare Campbell on the way into Whangarei!
